Bournda National Park
The combination
of ocean beaches, creeks, lagoons and the expansive waters of
Wallagoot Lake make Bournda National Park a most appealing
area. While the park is well serviced with camping and recreational
facilities, its natural environment remains unspoiled.
Of the park's natural features, the
wetland areas around the mouth of Wallagoot Lake stand out. These
provide valuable habitat for a range of both local and migratory
waterbirds in addition to playing a vital role in protecting the
fish and prawn nursery grounds for which the Lake is well known.
Alongside these areas there also occurs
a sand bar which provides a nesting site for the endangered little
tern. The site is fenced to protect the birds from disturbance
and visitors to the area (adjacent to the Wallagoot Lake Boat
Club) are requested not to disturb the birds in any way.
